Hi y'all!

Following a post on comp.sys.mac.games.action, I designed a map to illustrate some of the points I raised regarding ship design. The level is designed to illustrate battle circumstances on a ship occupied by enemy forces. This can also be stated as: there is more than one way to accomplish most things, there may be things that you just have to do right the first time and there will be things that you cannot do at all. All levels in deRuyter can be done without cheating, I have done so myself (I even have a lot of ammunition left). One thing that will be very hard, if not impossible, is to command-option-new-game into the later levels. You will lack the weapons you need.

As of version 1.4, deRuyter has terminal resources. Where? you may ask. They're in the Map file itself. To install them into Marathon, either copy them in by hand using ResEdit, or use the supplied TermMover to install them. The latter method depends on the Scripting Extension ResMover being installed, which I included for your Convenience And Ease.

Make sure to read the background story, since this will give some important hints. Have fun!

BTW: the 'Karel Doorman' (see the background story) used to be the only Dutch aircraft carrier there ever was. It is now Argentina's (or is it Brazil's) Almirante Grau. It was named after a Dutch admiral out of WWII. Michiel de Ruyter was Lieutenant Admiral General of the Dutch Navy in the 17th century.

Changes from deRuyter 1.3:

It's getting monotonous, but there's Yet Another Level.
ADDED TERMINALS. Finally you know what you've been doing all this time :-)
Removed the section in this ReadMe about how to begin halfway.
Added a section on how to add the terminal resources to Marathon.

Changes from deRuyter 1.2:

One more level to play around on.
Added a section to this ReadMe to describe how to continue from deRuyter 1.2 without having to play the entire game anew.

Changes from deRuyter 1.1:

Added Yet Another Level. This level is as "interesting" as the first ('Welcome Aboard')
Retweaked some tweaks that had become untweaked while preparing the upload package
Tweaked some more. Apparently some people can grenade-jump higher than I can. Changed the second level so even they have to do things the proper way ;-)
Tried to add terminals. Unfortunately, terminals made according to the 'Terminal Editing Manual v1.0' seem to make my map crash. If someone tells me how to make proper terminals, I will add them in

Changes from deRuyter 1.0:

Added a level for prolonged fun
Tweaked some of the things in the first level (Welcome Aboard) so the game would be more interesting in the second level
Fixed an error in the ReadMe (had the name of the Dutch carrier wrong :-)
Made a tiny adjustment to the background story
